BATON ROUGE, La. -- An area of River Road south of the Louisiana State University campus should be open in time for the first home football game Sept. 1 against North Texas, local officials said.According to The Advocate, the road has been closed for months while the Army Corps of Engineers and the Pontchartrain Levee District reinforced the Mississippi River levee against water seepage. The closure caused some traffic changes for fans driving to LSU games in November. Officials said the project is expected to be completed by mid-August.The River Road section of the levee has had problems during high-water when pressure in the river pushed water under the levee and up on the landward side. The $8.2 million project involves placing dirt on the landward side of the levee to provide a counterweight to future high water, officials said.
